When I first started my bag-making journey, one of the very first pattern designers I came across was Bagstock Designs — and I’ve been a huge fan ever since. If you’ve never tried one of Namrata’s patterns before, let me tell you why I think they’re absolutely worth checking out.

✨ Thoughtful Designs for Every Skill Level

Namrata, the creator behind Bagstock Designs, has a real gift for writing bag sewing patterns that are both easy to follow and packed with skill-building techniques. Whether you're just starting out or have a few makes under your belt, her patterns are clearly marked by skill level, so you’ll always know what you’re getting into.

One of my all-time favourites (and one I still go back to again and again) is the Sunshine Crossbody Bag. It’s a brilliant beginner-friendly project that teaches so many useful techniques — from zipper installation to topstitching — that you’ll use in countless future makes. It’s stylish, practical, and a proper confidence booster!

💬 What Makes Bagstock Designs Patterns So Good?

What I love most about Namrata’s approach is how clear and well-structured her instructions are. Each step is laid out logically with plenty of guidance, and her patterns often include tips that really help you grow your skills. There's something about her writing style that just clicks — especially if you're someone who learns best through doing.

🎁 Try Before You Buy – With Free Patterns!

One of the best things about Bagstock Designs is the number of free patterns available on the website. If you're not quite ready to dive into a full project, or you want to get a feel for how Namrata writes her instructions, this is a great place to start.

The free patterns still carry the same thoughtful design and helpful layout as her paid ones — it’s a generous offering and really gives you a proper taste of what to expect.

🧵 A Style You’ll Want to Sew Again and Again

Bagstock’s aesthetic hits that sweet spot between modern and classic. From roomy totes to crossbody bags and stylish backpacks, there’s a wide variety of bag styles to explore. Whether you're sewing for yourself, a gift, or even to sell at craft fairs, these patterns are versatile and timeless.

You can explore all of her patterns here.

If you’ve been thinking about trying a new designer or want to add some beautifully written patterns to your library, Bagstock Designs is a fantastic place to start. I’ll always have a soft spot for the Sunshine Crossbody — and I’m pretty sure if you give it a go, you’ll fall in love with it too.

🧵 My Recent Bagstock Makes

I’ve made quite a few Bagstock patterns over the years, but I wanted to share a few of my recent favourites — all very different styles, but each one a total joy to sew.

First up is the Sunshine Crossbody Bag, which I stitched up live over on my YouTube channel. I used a soft pink faux leather, a bold harlequin design print cotton, and added rainbow hardware for a fun twist — and I absolutely loved how it turned out. It’s such a good beginner pattern and a great confidence builder.

I also gave the Acacia Bag a go recently — this one’s actually a free pattern from Bagstock Designs, which makes it a brilliant place to start if you’re new to Namrata’s patterns. You can catch the full replay here, where I used a bronze faux leather paired with brass hardware. I made a few little adjustments to the pattern to make it suit my style and needs — and I talk through those on the video too.

And finally, I made the Felicity Tote as part of our monthly sew-along inside The Bag Makers Sew-Ciety Club back in April. This one’s a brilliant all-rounder of a bag — loads of storage, including a dividing pocket, and a really polished finish. I loved the final result so much… but I won’t be keeping it! Like all our monthly makes, one lucky club member will win the finished Felicity Tote. You can find out more about the club and how to get involved right here.

Until next time, happy sewing – and may your bobbin always be full. 🧵✨
