If you haven’t come across Country Cow Designs yet, let me introduce you to one of the loveliest small businesses in the bag-making world. Based in the UK and headed up by husband-and-wife team Jo and Adam Kay, this family-run brand is all about creativity, community, and clever design. While Jo and Adam still take the lead on designing all the patterns and filming their video tutorials, they’ve grown a small, passionate team to help things run smoothly behind the scenes. Debbie, Sarah, and Esther each play a vital role in keeping stock organised, packing orders, and sharing fresh inspiration across their platforms — and it’s clear they couldn’t do it without them.

A Community-Centric Approach

Jo and Adam are not just pattern designers; they're community builders. Their monthly pattern challenges, hosted in their bag-making group, encourage makers to try new patterns and share their creations. It's a fantastic way to connect with fellow enthusiasts and find inspiration.

Patterns for Every Skill Level

Whether you're a beginner or an experienced sewer, Country Cow Designs has something for you. Their patterns are clearly marked by skill level, making it easy to find the right project. Recent releases like the Sevien Phone Bag and the Avalow Tote offer stylish and functional designs.

Free Resources and Tutorials

Beyond paid patterns, they offer a selection of free patterns to help you get started. Their YouTube channel is packed with tutorials, tips, and behind-the-scenes content to support your sewing journey.

🧵 A Fabulous Fabric Selection

Country Cow Designs isn’t just about brilliant patterns – they also stock a carefully curated selection of bag-making fabrics that are well worth a look. Their range includes Mora faux leather, known for its beautiful texture and ease of sewing, and a wide selection of water-resistant canvas in prints and solids that are perfect for practical, stylish makes. If you’re after fabrics that strike the right balance between looks and durability, their shop has plenty to get excited about. You can browse the full range here.

Visit Their Shop in Newquay

If you find yourself in Cornwall, don't miss their bricks-and-mortar shop in Newquay. Located in the charming Nansledan area, it's a great spot to browse their products and meet the friendly faces behind the brand

I love Country Cow Designs. One of the first patterns I bought was one of Jo's. They're so well written that it's easy to follow them.

When buying on line from them their service is excellent .
