One of my absolute favourite places to shop for fabrics — especially for bag making — is Rainbow Fabrics. Whether I’m stocking up at a sewing show or popping things in my online basket, they never disappoint. They’ve got a brilliant range, a sustainable ethos, and their customer service is top notch.

If you haven’t discovered them yet, let me introduce you!

🌈 The Story Behind Rainbow Fabrics

Rainbow Fabrics was founded in 1994 by Yusuf & Ashraf in Kilburn, and since then, they’ve become a real staple of the UK sewing community. They pride themselves on stocking nothing but 100% deadstock fabrics — including natural fibres, ex-designer, and high-quality surplus that would otherwise go to waste.

During COVID, their website became a lifeline for sewists, fashion students, and makers across the UK. They played a huge part in keeping the creative community going – all while supporting sustainable fashion from home.

🧵 Fabrics Perfect for Bag Making

I first discovered Rainbow Fabrics at my very first sewing show — and I’ve been a loyal fan ever since. Their cottons, denims, and cords are perfect for bag making, with a constantly changing selection that’s always worth checking out. The prices are brilliant (especially for ex-designer stock), and they regularly run sales, so you can often pick up a bargain or two.

Whenever I see them in person at an event, I make a beeline for their stand — and their online shop is just as addictive!

✨ Top Marks for Customer Service

One of the things that really stands out about Rainbow Fabrics is how friendly and helpful they are. I once found myself short on fabric for a club sew-along project and gave them a ring — not only did they have what I needed in stock, but they shipped it out straight away, and I had it the very next day. That kind of personal service really makes a difference, especially when you’ve got a deadline.

🎁 Rewards & Referral Perks

Rainbow Fabrics also run a rewards programme where you can earn points for every purchase — and even more for referring friends. If you fancy checking them out, here’s my referral link (at no extra cost to you, but I might earn points if you make a purchase).

You can browse their online shop right here and follow them on Instagram @rainbowfabrickilburn for fabric drops and behind-the-scenes peeks.

If you’re looking for affordable, sustainable, and high-quality fabrics, especially for bag making, I really recommend giving Rainbow Fabrics a try. Their range is always exciting, their prices are spot on, and you’ll be supporting a small business that truly cares about makers like us. You will often see their fabrics pop up on my channel in my sew-alongs or in my haul videos if you want to check out one of these videos I have posted one below for you.
